New building energy performance standards went into effect on June 1, 2016, for state funded agencies and universities. These new rules (Texas Administrative Code 34 §19.31) mandate that state-funded buildings comply with the ASHRAE 90.1-2013 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings or the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The updated version of the standard is projected to achieve 8.5 percent in additional energy savings as compared to the 2010 standard.
