Required Documents

The following must be submitted to the UTSA Graduate School:

  • Graduate School online application
  • Application fee through the online application system
  • Submit official transcripts from all institutions you attended including community colleges
  • GRE or GMAT Test Scores (if required for the program you are applying to)
  • U.S. Citizens (Domestic) or permanent residents who attended a foreign institution, are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a foreign credential agency.
  • Additional materials such as recommendations, resume, statement of purpose, etc.*

*Additional materials may be required for your program of interest. Please refer to the program requirements and Graduate Catalog for more information.

Application Fee

The application fee is non refundable. You must submit your application fee online through the application system. Payment may be in the form of credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover) or electronic check.

Admission Documents

Statement of Purpose/Letter of Intent:

  • A one to two page statement can be attached to the online application by uploading the document. Include your legal name and program of interest at the top of each page.

Resume Or Curriculum Vitae:

  • Please submit as an attachment to the online application by uploading the document.

Transcripts:

  • Submit official transcripts from every institution you attended including community colleges. Transcripts should be mailed from your institution directly to the University of Texas at San Antonio Graduate School, Attn: The Graduate School.

Evaluation Of Foreign Credentials:

  • U.S. Citizens (Domestic) or permanent residents who have earned university level credit from foreign institutions are required to submit all transcripts from non-U.S. schools, colleges, and universities along with an evaluation of the transcripts from a foreign credential agency.
  • The Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA) is a private corporation that writes evaluations of foreign school credentials; explains how they equate to the US education system. They charge $75 for a detailed report for UTSA and for the applicant. If you need a request form, click on Application Information and Instructions, scroll down to item 7 and click on Printable FCSA form. Other accepted evaluation companies: foreign credential agency.

GRE Or GMAT Test Scores:

  • Please submit official GRE or GMAT test scores depending on your program of interest. Please refer to program requirements and application deadline for more information. Test scores must be received directly from ETS to be considered official. We do not accept photocopies of test scores. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) code for the University of Texas at San Antonio is 6919.
  • An applicant whose program of interest requires either the GRE or GMAT is required the official test scores before a decision can be reached. Applicants without official test scores have the option of applying under the *Special Graduate classification, as listed on page 3 of the online application. For more information on Special Graduate classification, see Admit Types. *(Note: College of Business programs do not offer the Special Graduate classification.)
  • You can take GRE/GMAT Test Preparation Workshops through the office of Extended Education.

Letters Of Recommendation:

  • Two or three letters of recommendations (varies by program of interest) may be required for submittal from faculty members acquainted with you. The Recommendation form is available on the online application. If unable to secure recommendations from faculty members, contact a Graduate Advisor for your program of interest to see whether recommendations from those familiar with your professional performance might be acceptable.

Application materials (including test scores and transcripts) become the property of the UTSA and are maintained at the Graduate School for one year from the time the application was submitted. If you submitted an application over a year ago, you may be required to re-submit all materials.

Admit Types

You may select from one of three admission options when applying online (page 3 of the application system). Please refer to the information below for complete details.

Graduate Degree-Seeking Students:

A graduate degree-seeking student is one admitted to a graduate degree program. In order to be eligible for admission without conditions as a graduate degree-seeking student, an applicant normally must:

Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or have proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution
Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 semester credit hours of coursework
Have completed at least 18 semester credit hours (12 of which must be at the upper-division level) in the area or areas in which the graduate degree is sought or in related areas as determined by the Graduate Program Committee for the proposed major
Be in good standing at the last institution attended. Even though admission is based on the last 60 hours of coursework taken, students must list on the application for admission all colleges and universities attended and request that an official transcript from each institution be sent to the Graduate School.

Non-Degree-Seeking Graduate Students:

An applicant who wishes to enroll for courses without pursuing a degree at UTSA should apply for admission as a non- degree-seeking graduate student. Applicants applying as Non-Degree Seeking are not eligible for financial aid.

In order to qualify as a non-degree-seeking graduate you must:

  • Hold at least a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 30 semester credit hours of coursework taken
  • Be in good standing at the last institution attended. Even though admission is based on the last 30 coursework taken and on good standing at the last institution attended, students must list on the application for admission all colleges and universities attended. Students must request that an official transcript be sent to the Graduate School from all institutions attended.

Special Graduate Students:

A special graduate student is one admitted to UTSA for the purpose of enrolling in master’s-level and/or undergraduate courses without currently entering a degree program. Applicants applying as a Special Graduate are not eligible for financial aid.

An applicant who elects to enroll as a special graduate student normally must:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or have proof of an equivalent degree from a foreign institution.
  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 30 semester credit hours of coursework taken.
  • Be in good standing at the last institution attended.
  • Be recommended for admission as a special graduate student by the authorized representative of the discipline offering the graduate course or courses desired.

The authorized representative of the discipline offering the course is the discipline graduate program committee acting through its chair or through its graduate advisor of record. If there is no graduate program committee for the discipline, the chair of the department offering the discipline is the authorized representative. If the program is interdisciplinary, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research of the appropriate college is the authorized representative. Even though admission is based on the last 30 of coursework taken, students must list on the application all colleges and universities attended.
