WeARE Systems Scholarship

Deadline: March 6, 2015

AWARD:   $1,000

Are you interested in…

  • Receiving a scholarship, paid summer internship, mentorship from faculty in Water and Renewable Energy?
  • Enhancing your RÉSUMÉ with differentiated credentials?
  • Becoming a GREEN engineer?

The $1,000 scholarship is open to all undergraduate students who have completed 2 years of their programs in the Mechanical or Civil Engineering departments.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            In addition to the scholarships, recipients may also be eligible for paid summer internships at USDA agencies and research experience at UTSA research labs.

CRITERIA:

  • Full-time undergraduate student in Mechanical or Civil Engineering;
  • Completed 60 credit hours (at least 12 of which at UTSA);
  • A cumulative 3.0 grade point average;
  • One essay (max. 2 pages, single space, 12-point font, 1-inch margins) indicating: how this scholarship will benefit their academic career and what is your 5-year plan including your academic career and beyond.

Department of the Navy (DoN) Materials Research Summer Internship

Deadline: March 15, 2015

Award: up to $4,000

The Multifunctional Electronic Materials and Devices Research Laboratory (MeMDRL) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, announces new Research Scholarships, Fellowships, and Internships made available by a grant from the Department of Navy (DoN).

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Full-time UTSA student seeking a bachelor’s or master’s in the College of Engineering.
  • Undergraduate GPA ≥ 2.8 with 60 hours or more completed.  Graduate student GPA ≥ 3.0
  • Interested in research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) of electronic materials, devices and systems.
  • Able to participate in weekly materials engineering research seminar and to conduct directed research under faculty supervision.
  • Interested in developing future career with a branch of the Navy.
  • Satisfy Department of Defense security clearance process.

Boeing Scholarship for 2014-2015

Deadline: January 25, 2015  February 15, 2015

AWARD:   $2,000

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate students enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester credit hours) actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering at UTSA.
  • Applicants may be incoming freshmen with a minimum 3.2 high school cumulative GPA or UTSA undergraduates with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Applicants must have authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for other than training purposes (student/temporary visas do not qualify).
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in The Boeing Company and will be encouraged to apply for Boeing summer internships.

Judy and James Adams Endowed Scholarship

AWARD:  $500  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled full-time (12 semester credit hours) as an undergraduate student or full-time (9 semester credit hours) as a graduate student pursuing a degree in engineering at UTSA.
  • Demonstrated financial need, as determined by Office of Student Financial Aid (International Students on F-1 visa are not eligible).
  • Must be in good academic standing at UTSA, and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

Anju-Rai Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Deadline: February 15, 2015

AWARD:  $1,200

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering at UTSA
  • Freshmen applicant must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and/or minimum ACT score of 21 and have graduated in the top 25% of their high school class
  • Applicants who are current students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated achievement in Electrical Engineering related coursework
  • Scholarship is renewable for up to three years after initial scholarship is awarded if the student maintains the minimum GPA and full-time status. Renewal is dependent upon availability of funds.
  • As long as women make up less than 50% of the students enrolled in the undergraduate electrical engineering program at UTSA, women will be given preference in the scholarship selection process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recipient must be enrolled on a full-time basis actively pursuing a degree at UTSA (minimum of 12 credit hours) as an undergraduate student or (minimum 9 credit hours) as a graduate student
  • Entering freshmen must have an SAT score of at least 960 or an ACT score of at least 20.
  • Current students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Applicants must have an active tie to the Texas Sustainable Energy Research Institute, either through student-employment, research, or volunteering.

Sam Madrid Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Science and Engineering

Deadline: February 15, 2015

The award for the 2015-2016 academic year is $5,000 (based on availability of funds).

The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in the College of Engineering was established in the Fall of 1994.  It is named after a native San Antonio engineer with a long record of professional and community achievements.  Mr. Madrid graduated from San Antonio Vocational Technical High School.  After serving in the U. S. Navy, Mr. Madrid attended Texas A&M University under the G. I. Bill and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Mr. Madrid started his employment at Kelly AFB as the first Hispanic design engineer ever hired.  He advanced into executive-level positions including many years of service as Executive Assistant to the Commander.  Simultaneously, he was deeply involved in community work, including service as Chairman of the Bexar County Hospital Board of Managers, President and Board Chairman of the United Way’s Board of Trustees and Charter Board Member of the Economic Opportunity Development Corporation.  Mr. Madrid has been a perennial supporter of education and was involved in establishing the Engineering Program at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be a United States citizen.
  • Applicant must be a current student at UTSA or incoming freshman for the Fall 2015 Semester.  The applicant must have graduated from a San Antonio area high school.
  • Applicant must have “B” average in his or her high school work and a “B” average (at least a 3.0 grade point average) in any college work.
  • Applicant must have applied for financial aid through The University of Texas at San Antonio Office of Student Financial Aid and must be certified as having a financial need by that office.
  • Applicant must have a declared major in one of the following disciplines:  Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Recipient Requirements

Scholarship recipients must enroll as a full-time student in The University of Texas at San Antonio in the 2015-2016 academic year and must pursue one of the majors listed in the eligibility requirements.

Instruction to Applicants

  1. Complete the Application form.
  2. Obtain a letter of recommendation preferably from a teacher.
  3. Obtain a copy of your college transcripts or, if an incoming freshman, obtain a copy of your high school transcript with verification of your SAT/ACT test scores and rank in your high school class.
  4. Type a 250-500 word essay responding to one of the questions listed on the attached essay form.

Morris R. Pitman Endowed Scholarship

AWARD:  up to $3,250

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled as full-time (12 semester credit hours) undergraduate student pursuing a degree in engineering, at UTSA.
  • Must demonstrated financial need, as determined by UTSA’s Office of Student Financial Aid (International Students on F-1 visa are not eligible).
  • Must have attained sophomore standing (satisfactory completion of 30 or more semester hours of credit) prior to receipt of the scholarship.
  • Must be in good academic standing at UTSA, and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8.

Dr. Amratlal M. Patel Engineering Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Deadline: February 15, 2015

AWARD:  $450

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time student at UTSA (minimum of 12 credit hours) as an undergraduate student or a full-time basis (minimum of 9 credit hours) as a graduate student.
  • Entering freshmen must have SAT score of at least 1100 or ACT score of at least 24.
  • Recipients must be pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering offered by the College of Engineering at UTSA.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.25 for undergraduate students, a minimum GPA of 3.7 and a GRE score (Qualitative + Quantitative) of at least 1150 for graduate students.
  • Renewable for up to 3 years of undergraduate studies or 1 year of graduate studies as long as student maintains full-time status and minimum GPA requirements.  Renewal is dependent upon availability of funds.

Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc. Endowed Scholarship

Deadline: February 15, 2015

AWARD$5,000

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time undergraduate student (12 semester credit hours) majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering at UTSA.
  • Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and must have completed 30 semester credit hours prior to the Fall 2014 semester.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership and community service by participation in student activities in the College of Engineering, University or community.
  • Must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Preference will be given to U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens who have graduated from a high school in Bexar County, Texas.

General Scholarship Requirements

All scholarships awarded by the College of Engineering require the recipient to:

  • Be actively pursuing a degree in the College of Engineering and in good academic standing with the university.
  • Be enrolled as an Engineering major
  • Be enrolled as a F/T student (12 semester credit hours for undergraduate students, 9 semester credit hours for graduate students), unless otherwise noted
  • Meet any other requirements as stated in the scholarship criteria
  • Award amounts are generally divided equally between the two semesters. Students must meet grade and enrollment requirements to receive the remainder of the award.
